One of the best things about our job is that we get invited to some seriously cool places. We’ve been lusting after the Vintage Vacations portfolio for some time, so when the lovely folks from VV invited us to spend a night at The Mission, how could we resist?
We Believe
The marvellous Mission
The Mission is a converted tin tabernacle dating from around 1895, which was converted in 2008/9 by the VV gang. Originally the Blackgang Mission Hall, the place is steeped in history, and has a really unique atmosphere.
The perfect combination of modern and original
Plenty of room to play!
Externally the building has been re-clad and repainted using original materials and paint colors. Internally much of the original interior remains untouched. The hall has a modern mezzanine-style building-within-a-building structure. This provides two double mezzanine bedrooms floating in the roof-space and a ground-floor bathroom with a sunken bath that’s sunken into what was the baptismal font.

The Mission sleeps eight people and is the perfect place for a party, get together or romantic escape.

Vintage Vacations are experts at retro interiors, and the attention to detail is astounding. The space really is very special. One word of advice though, on our visit we plumped to stay in one of the floating mezzanine bedrooms. Whilst they are unutterably gorgeous, we’d recommend bringing some ear plugs and eye masks to ensure you get a good nights’ sleep; the floating nature means they’re very light as soon as the sun comes up, and the noise from the road is quite obvious. However, the rear double bedroom is far quieter, if not quite so spectacular!

We loved The Mission, it’s a very special place indeed. In fact, we were so inspired by the television wall in the living space that we recreated it in our house!
